The Professional Scuba Association International's (PSAI) Intro to Cave Diver course is designed for those divers who wish to venture beyond the "Daylight Zone" of the cavern and into the cave environment to perform limited penetrations on the main line only. It is the second level of progression for those divers pursuing Full Cave Diver certification.
This course can be taught in combination with the Cavern Diver course.
The Intro to Cave Diver course builds upon the knowledge and skills acquired in the Cavern Diver course and instructs the diver in basic cave diving skills. This course further develops knowledge, skills, dive planning, gas management procedures, problem solving, propulsion techniques, emergency procedures, diver behavior & stress, guideline handling, communications, and diver proficiency needed to safely perform limited penetration cave dives on the main line, using single cylinders with dual outlet valve or back-mounted double cylinder configurations.
This course is limited to main line penetration only - no jumps, gaps, circuits, or traverses are allowed, no negotiating major restrictions, and all dives are conducted within the no-decompression limits. Penetrations are limited to 1/3 of a single cylinder or 1/6 of double cylinders. The Intro to Cave Diver course is not intended to train divers for all facets of cave diving.
Upon successful completion, this program qualifies divers to determine the risks and hazards of a proposed cave dive and to conduct limited penetration cave dives on the main line only within set limits of this level of training.
