Scuba Tips / FAQs
Jay "Astro" or "Depends" Dummett

Jay has been diving for 9 years and teaching for more than 5 years with over 1000 logged dives, teaching for Gigglin' Marlin Divers for four years. He currently holds teaching status with PADI as a Master Scuba Diver Trainer, IDC Staff Instructor Candidate, Emergency First Response Instructor, Medic First Aid Instructor and multiple Specialities, as well as, a NAUI Instructor and Instructor Trainer Candidate. He is a IANTD Nitrox, Advanced Nitrox, Deep Air, Semi-Closed Circuit Rebreather(Atlantis I/Dolphin) Diver and a SSI Scientific Diver and Research Diver. His favorite dive destinations are the Bahamas, Belize, Cozumel, and Honduras (oh yeah, Bill and Tonya's backyard pool with 99 degree water). His favorite Class to teach is anything other than Open Water, as this the course he teaches the most!

He loves seeing and experiencing things non-divers and recreational divers can only dream of (divers do it deep, but tech divers do it even DEEPER). Also, diving provides him with a plethora of opportunities to find a "sponsor" (i.e. a Sugar Momma, 40-60+ years young) that wants to dive and is more than willing to "sponsor" him on all his dive trips and gear in exchange for free scuba lessons. (If Santa and the Tooth Fairy are real, then this too can happen!) He became an Instructor to share his knowledge, skills, and experience with others while converting the world into Certified Divers (and to teach a future Sugar Momma, I mean "sponsor", so he can get more stuff!) His goal in scuba diving is to get every certification he can, except for Fish ID, U/W photography and videography...yuk!), as "He who has the most, wins"!

He has a Master of Science (MS) in Aeronautical Science w/ dual Specializations in Aeronautics and Space Studies from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Aeronautical Science and Computer Science from Texas Southern University. He is a Computer Systems Engineer for Texas Southern University facilitating all facets of the position, as well as, an Air Force Officer (1LT)/Navigator Trainee for the US Military, Department of Defense. He is very involved in many organizations: Masonic Order - [32 nd Degree], Ancient Arabic Order of Nobel and Mystic Shrine - [Aleppo Shrine Temple #223], Knight's Templar, a member at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church, Nubian Divers of Houston and the Gigglin' Marlin Tech Dive Team. When he is not diving, he enjoys Flying and Skydiving and spending time with his daughter, Jade.

His ultimate goal is to become an Astronaut (seriously!!!) and a Fireman/Mr. July in the upcoming Fire Fighter Calendar. (Whaaat!? I need more money to support my "gotta have it" gadget and gear fetish, plus ladies like men in uniforms.. my dry suit just doesn't do it for me anymore, I think it's the depends).
